Volunteer opportunities are available for everyone at
all levels of experience (providing that you are 16
years of age by May 2003 and 18 years with driving license
for those applying for driving posts). Some positions
do require knowledge of certain skills as and where
appropriate i.e. typing skills, computer skills, medical
skills, languages etc.
Volunteer Supervisors
At each venue (10 venues in total) a volunteer supervisor
will be stationed. They are responsible for handling
and coordinating their team of volunteers and maintaining
communication with these volunteers. They will be involved
in the mandatory training sessions prior to the Games
and manage the distribution of uniform, credentials
and packed lunches for their team. They will also maintain
the roster schedule and assure that all volunteers have
signed in and out and are carrying out their allocated
tasks appropriately.
Sport Volunteers
These volunteers will be assigned duties related to
a particular sport i.e. assisting officials, referees,
score keeping, water distribution, set-up, clean-up;
ensuring that each scheduled competition/event takes
place smoothly etc. Each sport may have its own special
volunteer needs.
Venue Support / Services
At each venue their will be a center point which provides
all the requirements and information about what is happening
at the venue for the general public, this will also
act as a hub for all activities carried out by volunteers.
Prior to the Games commencing logistical assistance,
equipment and materials will be obtained from this point.
Checking in and out of all volunteers must be carried
out at this point. A crew of volunteers will be needed
for ushering, ticket collection and greeting visitors.
Security Services
Positions vary from crowd control to parking and their
focus is to ensure the venue is safe and orderly.
Drivers/Transportation
Special drivers/hosts are needed to accompany and take
their VIP delegations to where ever they are needed
whether to a venue, function or tour around the Island.
Media/Results Coordinators & related services
The volunteers report to the Public Relations Director
and they assist in helping gathering results, assist
the media at the venue, and assist in organizing interviews
with athletes and medal winners. With collaboration
with the IT commission volunteers will help maintain
and update the Games website with results and photos
of the Games as and when they happen.
Medical Services
At each venue there will be medical doctors, physiotherapists,
trainers and other medical personnel to ensure the safety
and well being of athletes, volunteers and the general
public. A team of volunteers will be needed to assist
this section.
Merchandising
A merchandising team will be needed at each venue where
a stand selling hats, T-shirts, novelty items, Games
souvenir programmes etc. will be set up. This crew will
be responsible for the display and selling of official
Games merchandise. They are accountable to Venue Manager.
Hospitality Services
Hospitality volunteers look out for the well being of
official delegates, athletes, press representatives,
VIP’s and Sponsors.
Communications
A leader will be responsible for communication requirements
for their team and keep all events in constant contact
with Headquarters informing them every now and then
on the current situation and update reports.
Office Assistants
During the months prior to the Games and the days leading
to the Games volunteers will be needed to assist the
organizing committee in duties such as carrying out
phone calls, data imputing, mailing, photocopying and
contributing to the efficient running of the offices
as smoothly as possible.
Accommodation
At the Hotel where the athletes will be staying there
will be a center office, which will be used by the official
delegates, athletes, coaches, VIP’s, and international
press. This office will provide information and assist
in any way possible any queries made and help solve
any problems should they arise.
Information Services
A team of volunteers will be needed to assist the Marketing
and PR teams to promote the Games (before and during)
both locally and internationally. This will also include
preparing information packs for visiting guests and
carrying out visits to schools, local villages/town,
local councils, sports venues etc; and the setting up
of information stands at various fairs (as and when
they happen) etc. This team will also help out in any
way possible to promote Games sponsors as and when requested.
Logistics
A team of volunteers will make sure that all
venues, offices etc are provided with the necessary
equipment and supplies.
All volunteers will be provided with a uniform free
of charge. All volunteers will be provided with a lunch
pack. All volunteers will be provided with a certificate
as proof of their contribution to the Games.
