William Vella Again Shows His Supremacy in Air-Rifle
There is no beating William Vella in 10m Air-Rifle shooting. In last Saturday’s shooting competition at the Bidnija Airgun Shooting Ranges, William Vella yet again proved himself to be Malta’s number 1 air-rifle shooter by shooting an MQS score of 570+96.6 for a final score of 666.6 to win the event. Although there was a brave effort in the final by Lawrence Darmanin who scored 548+100.3 for a total of 648.3, there still remained an 18 point difference between the two top maltese shooters. Michael Xuereb finished 3rd with 497 + 92.4 for a total final score of 589.4. Joe Smith finished in 4th place (493+89.9=582.9) followed by his son William (477+83.8=560.8).
In the Ladies 10m Air-Pistol event, Eleanor Bezzina, who suffered a twisted ankle on her way to the range, still managed to win this competition with a good score of 342 and an excellent 94.8 in the final for a total score of 436.8. Josette Calleja came in second position with an improved score of 323+78.1 for a total of 401.1 points.
In the Men’s Air-Pistol event, Ray Cacciattolo obtained the winning score of the day with a good 542. He was followed in 2nd place by newcomer Patrick Azzopardi who shot an excellent 514 points in the qualification round. Martin Grech was third with a score of 478 points.
