Activities · Youth Sports Fest

Organized by the Physical Education Section – Education Division & Private Schools Association in Collaboration with the Malta Olympic Committee. The aim of Youth Sportfest is to introduce specific sports in secondary schools. It is the responsibility of the school to build up their students’ knowledge, physical fitness levels and engage them in various sports activities under the guidance of highly qualified instructors in the respective fields.

They are then given the opportunity to compete in their chosen field in various tournaments carried out over 4 months against different schools. Towards the end there are a week of finals in the respective sport disciplines. The tournaments are carried out mainly during school hours with a few events being held on weekends, this is not the norm.

As these tournaments are held mainly during school hours these are consider as a school activity. Those students not participating as an athlete are allowed to go along to the venues to offer support for their school. One of the objectives of these Games is to stimulate friendly competition between schools whilst at the same time encouraging students to be active in sports.

Participation forms and Calendar of the YouthFest are distributed through the Education Dept to all Heads of Schools/attention P.E. Teachers (Secondary School, Junior Lyceums, Trade School), State & Private. Schools are to ensure and encourage student participation and students may participate in a team sport and any other individual sport.

These activities also provide opportunities for various sporting disciplines to scout for potential talent and generate awareness for their sport.

The Malta Olympic provide for all the medals. The Education Dept carries out all the promotions within the schools and provides transport to the venues for the students.
The Sporting federations pay for the sports hall and for organizing the event.
